Beauty Interview with Stéphanie Chermont : “You can do it. Anything is possible. That way, you will move forward and find you can do things you didn’t think you were capable of.”

Can you tell us about the last time Beauty helped you or healed you?

The last time Beauty helped me was when I was cycling around my home city of Paris with my little dog, Lucette. I felt such great pleasure, it was quite moving. I was out in the sun, on my bike, looking at the buildings, taking in everything about this magnificent city. It did me so much good! You feel so small and yet, at the same time, you feel that you belong to this world and this place, which has so much history.

How do you bring more Beauty to the world?

I try to bring more Beauty to the world by being a little bit more natural, being attentive to what’s happening around me – and the people around me. I’m not just talking about my friends and family, but also people I don’t know very well. We live in quite a selfish society, and I guess I’m trying to be more open to the needs of others.

If I say Beauty, what do you think of?

If someone says Beauty, I instinctively think of my little dog, Lulu, who’s so beautiful! And I might also think about my mom, nature, and flowers – all these beautiful things that surround us every day.

Do you believe that Beauty will save us? How?

I sincerely believe that Beauty can save us, because Beauty and Kindness, all these wonderful qualities, can bring us together and unify people. And it’s good to think about that and apply it.

Do you remember the first thing that amazed you as a child?

It’s going to be animals again! Because if there’s one thing that amazed me as a child, the first thing, it was dogs. At home, we had lots of animals, and I have a lot of respect for these creatures. Every day, I feel thankful for them. Not just my dog, but all the dogs and cats around me. I’m amazed by nature through animals.

Where does Beauty hide? Can it be found in the most ordinary things?

I think that Beauty can be hidden in ordinary things, in little things we do or say every day, in little gestures we make. Sometimes we’ll do things spontaneously, without even thinking about it, and there’s a certain beauty in that.

What is your motto or philosophy in life to make you feel beautiful and fulfilled?

You might say it’s my motto, as I often say to myself in the morning, when I’m looking at myself in the mirror: “You can do it. Anything is possible.” That way, you will move forward and find you can do things you didn’t think you were capable of. It’s something I’ve been saying to myself for quite a long time, whether it’s at work or in relationships – romantic or otherwise. You can do it. Anything is possible. It helps me to move forward. I don’t have to think about it too much, I just have to do it.

What feeling does Beauty arouse in you? Could you describe it?

If I’m completely honest, for me, Beauty is a feeling of deep well-being. For example, in the evening, when I’m in my bathroom and applying my skincare products, or in the morning, when I’m applying my makeup, I have this feeling of well-being. I feel good in my body, like I’m giving off a good energy, and that makes me want to do everything, to succeed in everything. By taking care of myself, I feel that I can then take care of others.
